Foodilic: lunchtime superstars

Having moved office to Kings Cross earlier this year, I was slightly overwhelmed by the range of lunch options that now sat (quite literally) on my doorstep. Kings Cross is a treasure trove for lunch and dinner solutions to match all budgets, from the beautiful setting of Coal Drops Yard, to the cheapest pizza in London (probably), there is so much to eat and see that I’m so glad I get an hour a day to do it.

I have always been a fan of avoiding the obvious chains. Where I can I would always choose a deli over a pret and would much rather drink more expensive coffee from indie shops than underwhelming coffee from the obvious culprits. Luckily Kings Cross has a bit of both, with mid-scale chains like Black Sheep Coffee and Foodilic offering an alternative option to the Tesco meal deal.

Foodilic’s catch phrase is to ‘eat differently’. Challenging the London commuter to a healthy buffet at a flat rate, which is mainly about ‘how much can I fit in this box before it all leaks out the side and I embarrass myself in front of all of these people?’. As a veggie, finding places that offer genuinely delicious hot options that aren’t between two slices of bread can be a challenge, but with actually good vegan moussaka, Foodilic won me over and my lunchtime experience has definitely changed for the better.

The first in London, our Foodilic restaurant in Kings Cross stands on Pentonville Road, just off Caledonian Road and a short walk from King’s Cross station and St Pancras International. In all the hustle and bustle of life around the City of London, our restaurant promotes a healthy lifestyle whilst proving that taste and quality do not need to be compromised in order to achieve it.

With the health theme in mind, Foodilic serves a range of salads, organic salads, raw salads and hot vegetarian and of vegan dishes – making it ideal for vegetarians and vegans alike. Foodilic also provides catering for a wide array of events including birthdays, weddings, parties and corporate events.

Catering to most diets, Foodilic offers a few meaty classic such as beef lasagna & thai chicken. Their staple menu of spicy butter beans and basmati rice are perfect accompaniments and then there is a range of delicious fresh salads everyday, that add just enough green to your box for it to convince you that you are being healthy. With that in mind, it is definitely possible for even the most health conscious to find a meal they can eat and enjoy, with the range of salads being a much needed alternative to your traditional supermarket salad bar. Everything tastes fresh and for £4.50 per box it really feels like you are getting bang for your buck.

As a veggie, I would love even more vegan/veggie main dishes. The moussaka is so delicious and I definitely could eat it everyday, however we can only improve by having a couple options that also cater for the gluten free vegetarian.

Foodilic is also a popular location to eat in. For just a few pounds more you can fill your plate and enjoy a lunch away from your desk. I highly recommend menus that serve salads this vibrant and delicious and the best part is the people who work there are absolutely lovely!
